Serbian Films Awarded in Algiers

Cinema Communisto, a documentary by Mila Turajlić and Circles, a film by Srdan Golubović, received awards for the Best Documentary and Best Feature Film, respectively, at the recently concluded 4th Algiers International Film Festival – FICA.

The fourth edition of the festival took place from 19th to 26th of December, and was dedicated to politically engaged film. The idea of the festival was to create a place for dialogue, where talented film makers from all over the world could meet and show their unique brand of political engagement.
Khalida Toumi, the Minister of Culture of Algiers, pointed out that Serbian films have dominated this year’s festival, seeing that they won the two most coveted prizes.
Mila Turajlić, the director of Cinema Communisto, had the honor to be present at the festival, as well as the award ceremony.
The Algiers Cinematheque has agreed to organize a tour of Cinema Communisto in fourteen local cinemas across Algiers in 2014. The Algiers premiere was attended by representatives from the Serbian Embassy in Algiers.
