Three Serbian Films at the Sarajevo Film Festival

Serbian films Equals, The Disobedient and A Surplus of Wind will be shown at this year's 20th Sarajevo Film Festival, with the official competition program being presented on July 17th in Sarajevo.

Equals deals with children rights according to the Charter of the United Nations, and is made of six stories signed by Serbian directors Miloš Petričić, Mladen Djordjević, Dejan Karaklajić, Ivica Vidanović, Igor Stoimenov and Darko Lungulov.

Each of the stories in the movie covers one of the following topics: poverty, abuse in the family, health, juvenile marriages, juvenile delinquency, and discrimination. Filmmakers who participated in the making of the film (directors, actors, directors of photography, production designers, costume designers ...) have waived their fees for the project.

The film, which was supported by the Serbian Ombudsman, the German Embassy in Serbia and UNICEF, was co-produced by Absinthe production and Cinnamon production, with producers Igor Stoimenov and Ivica Vidanović, while the screenplay was written by Milica Piletić.

The film stars Mirjana Karanović, Nebojša Glogovac, Sergej Trifunović, Radoslav Milenković, Danijela Mihajlović, Marko Gvero, Boris Milivojević, Marko Nikolić, and Nele Karajlić. The world premiere is scheduled for August 17th in Sarajevo. At the 20th Sarajevo Film Festival, the largest regional film festival, Equals will be screened out of competition.

Film The Disobedient, the debut feature by Mina Djukić, will compete in the In the Focus program. After its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, the film had its domestic premiere at the recent Cinema City Festival in Novi Sad, where it won an award for best domestic film.

The competition program of short films will see the screening of A Surplus of Wind by Dane Komljen.

Komljen’s film will have its world premiere on August 13th at the 67th Festival del Film Locarno as a part of the Pardi di Domani competitive selection of short films.

A Surplus of Wind examines how we share words, memories and dreams in those moments in which we are forced to be away from those who are closest to us – how we find ways to be together and assume the right to tell their stories.

The film is a co-production between contemporary arts studio Le Fresnoy from France, Vizart Production from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Dart Film and Kino Glaz from Serbia.

The twentieth edition of the Sarajevo Film Festival will be held from August 15th to 23rd. This year's jury president will be Béla Tarr, one of the most important contemporary directors and the founder of film.factory at the University of Sarajevo School of Science and Technology (SSST).
