In the already fraught Serbian history, the 7th of July is one of the most controversial dates. Designated as the Day of the Uprising of the People of Serbia, it is viewed by some as the day when national hero Žikica Jovanović Španac fired the first Serbian shot in the Second World War, and by others as the day he killed two innocent gendarmes. Through seven thematically distinct segments, this film seeks to
examine this date from the perspectives of history, art history, the law, and cultural memory, as well as tell the personal story of the widow of one of the killed gendarmes.
