The Serbian film industry is once again in the spotlight of the European audiovisual community thanks to the series “The Librarians: The Next Chapter”.

Belgrade is among the five best film locations in Europe in the selection for the EUFCN Location Award 2025, the most significant European recognition for exceptional film locations and cooperation with international productions. The nomination comes thanks to the filming of the American series “The Librarians: The Next Chapter“, which was realized in Serbia by the production company Balkanic Media, and the nomination was submitted by the Serbian Film Commission.

This unique award, held for the ninth time by the European Network of Film Commissions (EUFCN), gathers top film industry experts and recognizes destinations that, with their Film Friendly policies and institutional support, have contributed to productions in the realization and promotion of cultural heritage through film. This year’s jury, made up of world-renowned location managers and producers, shortlisted Belgrade alongside with La Palma (Spain), Figeira de Foz (Portugal), Inari (Finland) and Zangerhausen (Germany). The winning city will be announced in February 2025 at a ceremony during the Berlin Film Festival.

Series “The Librarians: The Next Chapter” brought Belgrade global visibility through recognizable locations such as Kalemegdan, the Military Museum, the National Theater, the Star Observatory, and the central pedestrian streets around Knez Mihailova. The creators of the series from Electric Entertainment realized dozens of projects in Serbia, and in this series the city is treated not only as a competition to the American one, but also an inspiration for the confrontation between the magical world of Librarians and modern dynamics. Thus, for the first time, some of the symbols of Serbian folklore became part of the plot of this American franchise series.

In addition to the jury award, the audience across Europe will have the opportunity to vote online on the official website EUFCN.org, where all film lovers can cast their vote until January 30th, 2026 and support our film community to win the title of the best European film location for this year.
