HERCULES

Nenad lives with his mother in an apartment, in an extremely messy room. Deeply depressed, he is on the edge of taking his own life. His mother, divorced for 27 years and unhappy with her life, constantly reproaches him for being alone, without a girlfriend or friends, and for living in total disarray. On his birthday, Nenad receives a cricket larva as a gift from his estranged father, whom he hasn’t seen in 12 years and who left him and his mother when he was a child. The gift is delivered to his door by Vanja, a young woman working for his father’s company. Although depression and despair still linger, Nenad slowly becomes interested in raising the cricket, which becomes a beacon of hope in the dark tunnel of his life. He names the cricket Hercules, after the mythical hero his father used to tell him about when he was a child. Raising Hercules becomes more than just bonding with another living being — it becomes Nenad’s way of proving to his father that he is worthy of love and attention.
