After the debut film Have You Seen This Woman?, which some international film professionals called the “UFO of Serbian cinematography”, Dušan Zorić and Matija Gluščević are returning to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. This time, MoMA will be showing their short feature film Hysterical Fit of Laughter, which will have its US premiere in the prestigious film program “The Contenders”, within the Department of Film of the Museum of Modern Art. The screening is scheduled for Sunday, January 4th, 2026, at 2 p.m., in the cinema hall of the MoMA museum.
The program “The Contenders” annually gathers the most significant and original films made in the previous twelve months. The selection consists of works chosen from the most important world festivals and from cinema distribution, which are believed to have long-term artistic and historical significance. In this year’s selection, side by side with Hysterical Fit of Laughter, the new film by Oscar winner Charlie Kaufman, one of the most influential contemporary authors of world cinema, will be screened.
The film Hysterical Fit of Laughter follows Sneža, a woman who enjoys playing rough games with different men, while her son tries to spoil her fun.
I am glad that a film that gives voice to women’s fantasies will be shown in a space that historically protects artistic freedom. Hysterical Fit of Laughter was created in a social context that wants to discipline such voices, and I am especially glad that it is recognized as a contemporary work coming from Serbia – said the producer of the film, Čarna Vučinić.
The cast includes Snježana Sinovčić Šiškov, Momir Milošević, Radivoj Knežević, Aledž Elektra and Strahinja Marković, while the creative team consists of director of photography Aleksa Radunović, costume designer Kristina Savić, editor Olga Košarić and set designer Milena Grošin.
The world premiere of the film was held at the 78th Locarno Film Festival, after which it was screened at numerous international festivals. The film was produced by NAKED (Serbia), in co-production with Dinaridi film (Croatia). The world distributor is Shortcuts (France), while the production of the film was supported by Film Center Serbia and the Croatian Audiovisual Center (HAVC).
