The 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival begins today and runs until May 23rd. The Croisette in the coming days will host several films and multiple film professionals from the contemporary Serbian film scene, which makes this year’s festival one of the most impressive in the last few decades, when it comes to presence of Serbia.

This year’s festival is particularly important for Serbian film industry because its representatives appear in three festival selections — the main short film competition program, the La Cinef student program and the independent ACID selection.

In the official short film selection, there is Nobody Said Anything, directed by Tamara Todorović, while the film Over the Threshold“, directed by Tara Gajović was included in the La Cinef program, which showcases student films from around the world. With these selections, Tamara Todorović and Tara Gajović became the first Serbian women directors whose films were included in the official programs of the Cannes Festival.

The film Nobody Said Anything, whose premiere is scheduled for May 22nd, was created as a co-production of Serbia, France, Slovenia and Croatia, produced by the NAKED company of producer Čarna Vučinić.

Over the Threshold is Tara Gajović’s graduate film, produced by the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade. The premiere of the film is scheduled for May 20th.

As part of the ACID program, a parallel selection dedicated to independent and auteur films, on May 18th, the feature film Promised Spaces by Ivan Marković will be screened.

The film is directed, written and edited by Ivan Marković, who is also the director of photography together with Katarina Hauke. Tanja Šljivar collaborated on the script, while the production is signed by Jasmina Sijerčić from Bocalupo Films, Žofi Lili Kovač from Fiskultura Films, Jelena Radenković from Big Time Production and Daniel Mattes from Anti-Archive.
