The feature film Frost, written and directed by Pavle Vučković, will have its world premiere in mid-October at the 59th International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia in Sitges, the largest and most prestigious festival of fantastic and horror films, where it will be shown in the main competition program. The festival will be held from October 8th to October 18th.
The film is inspired by a myth from Eastern Serbia and follows Mirjana, a cynical and emotionally distant police detective who comes to a small town to investigate the disappearance of a young girl, Adele. The investigation leads her through a gated community whose clues connect to local superstition and stories of a strange being who seems to have been in contact with the missing girl. Following Adele’s tracks, she will face not only what is hidden in the place, but also the fears she has suppressed all her life.
The main role is played by Kamka Tocinovski from North Macedonia, while the film also stars Lara Dragović, Vesna Trivalić, Jovo Maksić, Mirko Vlahović, Zlatan Vidović, Jovan Belobrković and Antonio Scarpa.
Frost was filmed in Belgrade, the village of Braćevac in eastern Serbia, Kosmaj and the village of Babe during September and October 2024. The main producer is Stefan Mladenović, and the film was co-produced by Serbia, Great Britain, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Croatia and Russia.
Film Center Serbia supported the film through competitions for feature filmdevelopment and production . The project was supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia through the incentive program for film projects, the Film Center of Montenegro, the Film Agency of North Macedonia, the Croatian Audiovisual Center, as well as the international funds MEDIA and Eurimages Development Fund.
Pavle Vučković was awarded at the Cannes Film Festival for the short films Run, Rabbit, Run (2003) and Minus (2007), while his feature debut Panama was screened in the official selection of the Cannes Festival in 2015.
