The Serbian film industry is once again in the spotlight of the European audiovisual community, mostly thanks to the series “The Librarians: The Next Chapter” being filmed and produced there. Belgrade was among the five best film locations in Europe in the selection for the EUFCN Location Award 2025, the most significant European recognition for exceptional film locations and cooperation with international productions. The nomination comes thanks to the filming of the American TV show “The Librarians: The Next Chapter”, which was filmed and produced in Serbia by the production company Balkanic Media, and the nomination was submitted by the Serbian Film Association.

This unique award, awarded for the ninth time by the European Film Commission Network (EUFCN), gathers top film industry experts and recognizes destinations that have supported productions in the realization of film and TV projects with their Film Friendly policies and institutional support, especially those that promote the destination’s cultural heritage through film. This year’s jury, made up of world-renowned location managers, producers and scenographers, included Belgrade in the shortlist of 5 candidates together with La Palma (Spain), Figeira de Foz (Portugal), Inari (Finland) and Zangerhausen (Germany). The winning city will be announced in February 2025 at a ceremony during the Berlin Film Festival.

The series “The Librarians: The Next Chapter” brought Belgrade global visibility through recognizable locations such as Kalemegdan, the Military Museum, the National Theater, the Star Observatory, and the central pedestrian streets around Knez Mihailova. The creators of the series, Electric Entertainment, have so far realized dozens of projects in Serbia, and in this series Belgrade is treated not only as a cheap competition to the American sets, but also as an inspiration for the confrontation between the magical world of Librarians and the modern environment. Thus, for the first time, some of the symbols of Serbian folklore became part of the plot of this successful American franchise series.

In addition to the jury award, the audience across Europe will have the opportunity to vote online on the official website EUFCN.org, where all film lovers can cast their vote for Belgrade and support our film community to win the title of the best European film location for this year. Voting lasts until January 30, 2026.
