Croatian Audiovisual Center (HAVC) has supported three projects by authors from Serbia at the Competition for the Support of Minority Croatian Film Co-Productions. The films are: Sand Chronicle, In the Shadow of Horns and What Now, What Then?
HAVC awarded 60,000 euros to the film Sand Chronicle, which is being produced by the production company Living Pictures from Serbia with the Croatian co-producer being Inter Film.
After the Film Center Serbia initially financially supported the film with 44 million dinars in 2019, the quality of the project was recognized in the region as well, and it was supported at the competitions of film centers in Bulgaria where it was awarded 140,000 euros, and in North Macedonia, where it received 57,000 euros.
The project continues to compete in other countries of the region and Europe. The film will be directed by the Petar Ristovski, and it is an adaptation of the successful novel by Pavle Zelić, who also wrote the film’s screenplay. Filming should begin in November this year.
The feature film In the Shadow of Horns received 80,000 euros from HAVC. The first financial support for the film was provided by FCS 2021 in the amount of 29 million dinars, with the explanation that it is an “original and authentic coming-of-age film, deeply rooted in a colorful local environment that offers a gallery of unexpected and layered characters.”
The script for the film was written by Ognjen Glavonić, who will direct and produce it, while the co-producers are from France, Slovenia and Croatia. Glavonić achieved success with his first feature film Load, which premiered at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in 2018 and was then screened at more than 100 festivals around the world, winning around 30 awards. The film is planned for release in 2024.
HAVC invested 55 thousand euros in the production of What Now, What Then? while FCS awarded the project seven million dinars. The new “impossible” documentary by author Boris Mitić deals with the sweet curse of parenthood in “one” 90-minute frame, with a handful of special effects.
The film is a co-production between Serbia, Croatia, France and Luxembourg, with the support of the MEDIA subprogram of Creative Europe.
The premiere of the film is planned for fall 2025.
