“Filmograf” magazine, a unique publication dedicated exclusively to Serbian cinematography, has been revived after more than two decades. The new issue of the magazine is produced by the joint effort of Film Center Serbia and the Association of Film Artists of Serbia.
– Our cinematography needs some sort of written trace about what has been filmed, shown and presented at festivals. Apart from the “Kinoteka” magazine, published by the Yugoslav Cinematheque, there are no other active film publications in Serbia todey. Therefore, the return of “Filmografr” is an important step forward – said Ivan Karl, Acting Director of Film Center Serbia.
The first issue of the renewed edition is thematically dedicated to minority co-productions, which are today increasingly created through the cooperation of several countries, whether feature, documentary ot other type of film. In addition to the major theme of the issue, the magazine also provides reviews of the latest Serbian productions, displays of the festival, as well as author’s texts by renowned critics.

In the focus of the first issue of the renewed edition of the magazine were films Restitution or Dreams and Reality of the Old Guard by Želimir Žilnik, Mother Mara by Mirjana Karanović, Isolation by Marko Backović, and Son’s Will by Nemanja Ćeranić.
The issue features articles in by renowned Serbian film critics and film buffs, including Miroljub Stojanović, Dragan Jovićević and Božidar Zečević. The plan is for every issue of the magazine to have a guest editor who will give it his own author’s stamp. The first issue is edited by Nenad Dukić, who emphasized the importance of maintaining printed publications on the topic of film art:
– Although it may seem anachronistic, a written trace of contemporary production is necessary. The complete current Serbian film production is covered, but films that deserve special attention are covered in detail. The magazine also includes historical reviews, as well as reports about the presence of Serbian films at international festivals – emphasized Dukić.

The president of the Association of Film Artists of Serbia, Dragan Marinković, underlined the character of the existence of a specialized edition:
– It is important that we have a magazine that focuses exclusively on Serbian film. Feature films are currently in the spotlight, so we should also pay attention to documentaries and animated films, which are often neglected.
Trilingual and outside the digital space
“Filmograf” will be published three times a year, in Cyrillic and Latin, while part of the circulation will also be published in English. The magazine will not have a website or presence on social networks, but Film Center Serbia will distribute copies – printed and in digital form on USB devices – to cultural institutions, schools, local governments and festivals throughout Serbia.
As a reminder, “Filmograf” was originally published from 1976 to 1990, and then again under the name “Novi Filmograf” (New Filmograf) from 2005 to 2010. The new, second issue in the current format is expected to be published by the end of 2025.
