The second International Film Festival “Female Characters in Front of and Behind the Camera” will take place on May 15th and 16th at the Tuckwood Cineplex, in the Marilyn Monroe Hall. As in the previous years, the festival is a showcase of the female representation in film and film industry.

For the first time at this year’s festival, a competitive selection of international short films will be showcased, while a review program of films will be screened for the audience in attendance. Fifteeen international short films with authentic main characters will be shown in the official competition selection.

This year’s selection includes exceptional films from Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, United Kingdom, Russia, America, Italy, Belgium, Poland, Hong Kong and Spain.

The review program will highlight Serbian feature films with leading female characters released during the previous year. On the first evening, there will be a screening of 78 Days, which had its premiere at the prestigious festival in Rotterdam, and the festival will close with the comedy Alive and Well, which had its premiere at the Tallinn Nights festival.

The festival “Female Characters in Front of and Behind the Camera” is primarily aimed at changing the perspective of female characters in Serbian films and series from secondary characters, being someone’s “wife, mother, lover” to authentic main characters with depth. Highlighting the exceptions, the festival presents concrete examples in order to create new role models and support the new generation.

“I am extremely grateful that after the successful first year, the second year of our festival has come, right in the legendary Belgrade movie theater Tuckwood, symbolically in the Marilyn Monroe hall. Tuckwood was the place where we fell in love for film, for many peers in my generation, with its unique interior of old Hollywood, in respect to which our festival poster has been designed. We have prepared a lot of new things for you. For the first time, we have a competition program and awards decided by an expert jury of filmmakers from Australia, India, France and of course, Serbia. To our great pleasure, nineteen filmmakers from all over the world are coming to Belgrade,” said the artistic director of the festival, Mimi Vlaović, director of the award-winning film Your Guardian.

On the first day of the festival, on May 15th at 5 PM the festival will open with the discussion of “Female Characters”, with participation from Emilija Gašić – the director of 78 days, Marija Stojanović – the producer of Alive and Wellm and the directors of the short films of the competition program: Sabrina Janući, Anastasia Savinova and Marija Melenevskaja, Maria Pavlikovska and Tom Chambers, Elena Vatamanu and Jana Otković.

Tickets for all screenings are free, but reservation via the following form is mandatory.
