THE GAME

Strahinja, a smuggler in the Balkan migration industry, aspires to buy a luxury apartment to fix his broken marriage with his wife, Tijana. His hopes for a reconciliation are dashed when Tijana sees him drop off their son to school in tears. Shortly after, a routine smuggling trip is interrupted by border police and all of his colleagues are arrested. Strahinja becomes stranded with refugee teens, led by Yousef (17) a beatboxer and a hopeless romantic from Yemen. Driven by a handsome paycheck, Strahinja promises to find a way to Hungary. Yousef is open hearted and hungry for experiences. In moments he is a typical teenager, agonizing over what to text a girl. In others, he is wiser than his years and sees past Strahinja’s explosive temper and anxiety. The humid summer days grow long as all of Strahinja’s plans for finding safe passage to Hungary disintegrate one by one.
