Film VERA is a spy thriller with elements of melodrama. The film is inspired by the true story of Vera Pešić (1919–1944), a WW2 spy dubbed by some people the Serbian Mata Hari. In the labyrinth of spy games in the Balkans, from Vienna to Constantinople, Vera Pešić survives among Yugoslav, German and British spies with double and triple agendas, alone, without ideology and not knowing her actual background, but determined to fight and survive. Born from an unexplained secret relationship and raised under the stigma of an unwanted child with no real place where she should belong, Vera evolves from a confused country girl to a master spy, seducing and manipulating men, never allowing herself to fall prey to them. Along with the action and espionage narrative, the Film focuses on Vera's intimate, psychological drama - the relationship with her mother, Andja, in the context of Vera's mysterious background. The relationship with her mother and the mystery of her father mark relationships with men in her private life and spy career. The Film deals with Vera's inner drama - with no place to belong - creating the foundation for a perfect spy and causing her deepest pain.
