The film Our Father directed by Goran Stanković has recently won two significant international awards – the award for best director at the 35th Cottbus Film Festival and a special jury award at the 29th Tertio Millennio Film Festival in Rome.
Realization, which had its world premiere in September at the International Film Festival in Toronto – TIFF, in the Discovery program, where “Variety” magazine included it among the twenty best festival titles, continues to achieve recognition at European festivals.
At the festival in Cottbus, one of the most important European events dedicated to the contemporary film of Central and Eastern Europe, the jury awarded Stanković the award for best director. In the explanation, it is pointed out that the film provides an “unfettered, raw and uncompromising look into the life of its hero”, as well as that it “reminds us of the transformative power of simplicity and the courage to let the truth stand for itself”.

At the festival in Rome, the film was awarded a special recognition by the inter-religious jury, which pointed out that Stanković “with sensitivity and precision, through the experience of a religious community for drug addiction recovery, portrays the theme of violence and human dignity.” The jury concludes that the film “invites to think about faith and moral responsibility with its calm direction and strong acting performances.”
The film centers on Dejan (Vučić Perović), a young addict who seeks salvation in a remote monastery commune. With him stands the priest Branko (Boris Isaković), a man of strong authority and deep faith, whose approaches to healing, as time passes, become more and more harsh and dangerous.
In addition to Perović and Isaković, the film also stars Goran Marković, Dado Ćosić, Lazar Tasić, Jasna Žalica, Toni Mihajlovski and Nenad Heraković.
The script is written by Goran Stanković, Dejan Prcić, Ognjen Sviličić and Maja Pelević, while the producer is Snežana van Hauvelingen from the company “This and That Productions”, with co-production with Italy, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina (New film). The film was also included in the selection of the International Film Festival in Mannheim.
