The tenth edition of the Dok’n’Rhythm music documentary film festival will open on Thursday, September 25th at the Mts Dvorana in Belgrade and will last until September 28th, at several locations in Belgrade. The audience can expect 16 films from seven countries, under the slogan “1:0 for music documentaries”. Traditionally, part of the program includes talks about music books and documentaries in the making.
The premiere of Arsen Oremović’s film Third World about the cult Croatian band Haustor will open rhis year’s festival at mts Dvorana, and films about the inimitable musician Vlada Divljan; about one of the best musicians and drummers of the former Yugoslavia, Dragoljub Đuričić; about Anita Pallenberg, the legendary muse of the Rolling Stones, and many other films will be screened during the festival at the Yugoslav Cinematheque. Arsen Oremović’s film The Third World is a cinematic meditation on the creative and personal relationship of the two founders of the iconic Zagreb band Haustor – Darko Rundek and Srđan Sacher. At the opening of the festival, on September 24th, the short student by film Anja Petrić What is Slađana Milošević To Me will be shown. On Friday from 9:30 PM at the Jugoslovenska Cinematheque in Kosovska Street, the film Funk YU will be screened, which will delight fans of gramophone records. At the Yugoslav Cinematheque in Uzun Mirkova Street on Saturday, August 27th, from 8 PM., the documentary The Avalanche Man by Slobodanka Radun will have its premiere – a film portrait of the legendary drummer Dragoljub Đuričić. Another screening of this film will follow at the Yugoslav Cinematheque in Kosovska Street, from 10 PM. Both screenings will be complemented by a conversation with the film’s crew.
In hell with Ivo, Behind the Smile and the story of Anita Pallenberg
Also on September 27 from 8:30 PM at the Yugoslav Cinematheque in Kosovska Street, the film In hell with Ivo, an unusual story about the Bulgarian artist Ivo Dimchev, who during the pandemic held more than 400 free concerts in homes all over Bulgaria, will be screened. Part of the competition program will be a documentary-animated film about Vlada Divljan, Behind the Smile by Marko Đorđević, on Sunday, August 28, from 7:30 PM, at the Yugoslav Cinematheque in Kosovska Street.

Part of the festival will also be such exceptional Serbian and regional productions as Ej, Salaši by Maja Uzelac, Underground Top List by Lidija Špegar, and Ring the Bell On the Hike by Miroslav Stašić. The short films “You Found a Friend in Elvis” by Jenny Price, “Echoes of Longing” by Marissa Bottcher and “The Record Seller” by Clara Noreen will also be part of the competition program. Another competition film is coming from the Czech Republic – PSO Grand Finale, which, as part of the festival’s cooperation with the Czech Center Belgrade, will be shown in the Czech Center. The film is about an amateur music ensemble consisting of hundreds of musicians, singers and volunteers who sold out Lucerne and organized a charity concert for 5,000 spectators.
The 10th Dok’n’Rhythm will be closed with an award ceremony and a review film Catching Fire: The Story of Anita Pallenberg, a portrait of the famous rock and roll muse from many Rolling Stones songs. Tickets for all films are available at the box offices of the Yugoslav Cinematheque in Uzun Mirkova and Kosovska streets.
Talk dedicated to Gabi Novak, music books and documentaries in the making
A talk on the personality and work of Gabi Novak and “Books about Gabi – the soundtrack of our lives” by Sinisa Škarica is scheduled for September 26th at 6 PM at the Yugoslav Cinematheque in Kosovo. Music scene icon Bisera Veletanlić and author, host and editor of Radio Belgrade and TV Belgrade Nikola Nešković will speak at the forum. The conversation is moderated by journalist and writer Ana Vučković Denčić. Entrance is free.
On September 27th, from 5 to 8 PM, the Notabook and Work in Progress programs bring discussions about the books “Ugly, Smart and Young” by Bogomir Mijatović and “Conversations at the Golden Parrot” by Olga Kepcija, as well as about the documentaries in the making, To the Last Atom about the rock group Atomsko Sklonište, and Suba/Gringo Paulista about Mitro Subotić Suba. Entrance is free.
