One of the most important filmmakers in the world today, director Aleksandar Sokurov, is a guest of Belgrade and the ongoing Author’s Film Festival (FAF). On Monday, November 28th, Sokurov met with the director of the Film Center Serbia, Gordan Matić. At that meeting, which was also attended by the director of FAF Igor Stanković and the head of the department for international cooperation, placement and promotion of FCS Miroljub Vučković, joint cooperation between FCS and Sokurov was agreed. Alexander Sokurov is a celebrated Russian director, screenwriter, cinematographer and film theorist. He is the author of numerous cult films, including: “Voice of a Lonely Man”, “Eclipse Days”, “Mother and Son”, “Father and Son”, “Moloch”, “Taurus”, “Sun”, “Alexandra”, ” Faustus” and “Francophonie”, for which he won numerous festival awards around the world.

Sokurov was presented with the “View of the World: Vojislav Vučinić” award of the Author’s Film Festival, which is awarded for overall contribution to film art and improvement of the understanding of film as a personal creative act. The Lifetime Achievement Award of the Author Film Festival, awarded to the most important filmmakers such as Puriša Đorđević, Želimir Žilnik, Goran Marković, this year was named after Vojislav Vučinić, the founder and first director of the Author Film Festival. This award was presented to a foreign laureate for the first time this year.

The program of the film festival will include the latest work of the Russian filmmaker, the experimental animated fantasy film “Fairytale”, which follows the conversations of Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Joseph Stalin and Winston Churchill in purgatory, using archival footage and deepfake technology, and also includes Jesus and Napoleon.

The festival lasts until December 2, and the program takes place in several cinema halls in Belgrade: MTS Hall, Hall of the Cultural Center of Belgrade, Dom omladine Belgrade, Yugoslav Cinematheque, Dom kulture “Studentski grad” and Cine Grand Rakovica cinema.
