On Thursday, October 9th, 2025 Jakov Petrović, film and television producer, was appointed director of Film Center Serbia at a session of the Government of the Republic of Serbia. The appointment decision was published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia on Saturday, October 11, 2025.

Jakov Petrović – biography

Jakov Petrović is a film and television producer born in 1988 in Belgrade, where he graduated from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts of the University of Arts in Belgrade at the Department of Film and TV Production, after which he enrolled in postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Belgrade. During and after his studies, he improved at the international programs of the European Summer Film School, where he worked with mentor director Milča Mančevski, as well as at the European Summer Art School of the University of the Arts in Belgrade.

He began his professional career as a producer of the feature TV series “Mixed Meat” and the award-winning short feature film “Our Little Secret”. He quickly established himself in the field of documentary film, especially through the feature-length documentary film “Walter” of which he was the main producer and creator, as well as his involvement in the feature-length feature film “Panama”, which was shown at the Cannes festival. He also worked on numerous television and radio campaigns, among which the project of the Ministry of Education and the European Union “Second Chance” stands out, as well as on the production of corporate and promotional films for domestic and international companies.

From 2011 to 2016, he was the general director of Serbian Science Television (today Brainz TV), the first non-profit television station, thereby contributing to the development of specialized media dedicated to science, education and art. He also ran his own independent production company in which he developed and implemented projects in the field of film and television production.

From 2012 to 2019, Petrović served as the head of the culture and art department of the Knowledge Committee of Serbia, where he was involved in the promotion of cultural initiatives, artistic programs and projects aimed at improving cultural dialogue.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of the State Audiovisual Archive of the Republic of Serbia – Yugoslav Cinematheque.
